The Nation Selectively Quotes Sherry Rehman, Misleading ReadersMay 27th, 2012 | By admin | Category: The Nation
The Nation reported on Saturday that “Ambassador to US Sherry Rehman has said that Pakistan will release Indian spy Surjeet Singh in next week”. However, this report selectively quotes the Ambassador, removing all context and clarifications from her statement which gives readers a wrong impression of the facts.
The Nation‘s report is based on a Twitter post by the Ambassador:
But The Nation did not report that only a few minutes later, the Ambassador clarified that she was quoting a Times of India report, not government sources. She actually clarified this not once, not twice, but three times.
The Nation report fails to note the full context of Ambassador’s Tweets including the clarifications that she posted almost immediately, giving readers the false impression that Ambassador Sherry Rehman has announced a new government policy to release Surjeet Singh when actually she was only quoting a report she had read in the Indian media.
